Our Little Story
On October 7th, 2023, our lives changed forever. I bet yours did too in some way.
Jake and I were in Israel for Sukkot, my favorite holiday, celebrating our recent engagement. Friday night, October 6th, we went to Hakafot services in Jerusalem for Simchat Torah. We danced with the Torah. We met up with friends in the streets of Jerusalem. Later that night, we sat on Jaffa street, talking with friends and some strangers who passed by.
The next morning, we woke up to sirens and news of the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, just miles from where we slept.
Two days later, Jake was called up to serve in his reserve unit of the IDF, as he is the only one in his elite combat unit trained to use the machine gun.
After finally making it out of Israel on two flights through Ethiopia and Togo, I made it to New Jersey and then back to St. Louis.
Meanwhile, Jake was in the very north of Israel on Mount Hermon, defending the border with his unit.
The next two months were some of the hardest of our lives. With the help of Jake’s sister Devorah, we had the idea to elope in Israel. Planning our wedding made being apart a lot more bearable.
The small army-base wedding we imagined turned into a magical dream we couldn’t have accomplished ourselves. The IDF, Devorah, and volunteers of all sorts created a beautiful simcha (joyous occasion) for us.

A few days before our wedding, Jake’s unit was released from reserve duty until end of January. As of now, they are expected back in early summer. Please G-d this war will end soon!

While our wedding was an absolute dream…
We didn’t get to share it with our favorite people, our family.
This wasn’t easy. Thankfully, our family and friends were happy for us and supported our decision.
Their selflessness and support were crucial on our Wedding Day.
All of you who watched along, please know it meant the world to us.
We don’t want to be celebrated forever. But, marriages are serious. We want (and need) to honor our commitment to each other with our family and friends present. That’s where you come in.
Please join us at our wedding reception on Sunday, March 10th.
We’ll have drinks and refreshments, and live music. We’ll also share our wedding video. We’d love to see you!
Gifts are totally unnecessary! I just want to celebrate Jake’s army service and our union, with you. But, because many have asked, here is a link to some things on our wishlist as we build our new home together.
